Subscribe to the BlogUS has always tried to play big brother with most of the Asian and other third world countries, and many a times it has failed. And it has been forced to get into military action inside Afghanistan and Iraq nearly eight years back and it continues to haunt them till now.
The head of US forces in Afghanistan had indicated few weeks back that the US and NATO forces are facing an imminent defeat in Afghanistan due to shortage of forces. That has now forced the US administration to approve another 30000 troops to Afghanistan.
The additional troops would definitely help the US and NATO troops in Afghanistan to fight out the terrorists with full force and eventually hand over the reigns to the local government.
The US forces are also responsible to train up and build the competencies of the Afghanistan military forces. That is going to be a herculean task for the US troops as there could be a strong nexus between the Afghan military and the terrorists in the future.
US cannot afford to take the risk of pulling out the troops from Afghanistan in the immediate future, as the Taliban forces are showing more resilience. Any cut back on US troops now could only lead to further strengthening of terrorist forces which US and the world cannot afford.
