The recruitment firm Michael Page said it was being asked to find twice as many bankers in the UK as it was a year ago. Banks are among several industries to revive employment plans as the economy picks up pace, it added, with sales and IT sectors also taking on more staff. Its comments came as it revealed its profits plummeted last year, falling by 85% to £21m ($31m).
Michael Page, which specialises in professional staff services, said 2009 had been an "extreme test" of strategy.
But it went on to say that market conditions had stabilised and that overall, the picture was of a recovering job market.
Its comments came on the same day that the world's biggest advertising group, WPP, said it had started hiring again.
