The one thing which goes up in value every time there is a crisis out there in the world is Gold. Though all that glitters is not gold, gold is definitely glittering now. The price of gold has been continuously going up. Without a break. Just check the prices 10 years back and now. Just check the prices 5 years back and now.

Every year, the gold price has been climbing up and up and absolutely steadily and beautifully.

Is there a problem in the economy? Gold goes up. Is the dollar getting hammered in the world currency market? Gold goes up. Is there a liquidity problem and some mega company is going down under? Gold goes up.

It seems as if the gold prices cannot but go up and this is the time to buy them.

BP says it has set aside $32.2bn (£20.8bn) to cover the costs linked to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company said the charge gave it a loss of $17bn for the three months between April and June - a UK record.

BP's chairman said the costs estimate was based on the company's belief that it was not grossly negligent, and added the bill could be higher.

BP also said Bob Dudley, head of the Gulf clean-up operation, will replace Tony Hayward as chief executive.

Mr Hayward will leave his post by mutual agreement in October.

He is likely to retain a role within the company. BP plans to nominate him as a non-executive director of its Russian joint venture, TNK-BP.

There is some beauty in this business model. I often wonder at the genius of whoever thought of this as the financial instrument. Just think about this. You have a payment due to you. That will happen in the future. It may be an insurance claim. It may be a personal injury claim. But, it will certainly happen - but will happen at a future date. This, is tax free and this will accrue to either you or your survivors. As long as these conditions are fulfilled and as long as this future payment does not happen as a result of workers' compensation claim, this future receivable can be neatly structured into a settlement payment.

This set of structured settlement payments, can be made into a financial instrument. Instead of you patiently waiting for this payment to happen some distant time in the future, you can sell it to financial companies and get a cash equivalent of the same today itself.

And, in a situation where the cash on hand is worth more than the future receivables in a distant future, you and everyone would obviously prefer the cash on hand immediately. And, with good reasons.

That is where this instrument makes so much sense and comes in handy.

There are several small things which can derail your business. When I was telling this the other day in a group discussion on the topic, people agreed completely. One of the things that came up as a possible one which can derail the bandwagon is the host where you have put your web site.

This is both an enabler and also a derailing one. Where the web hosting hub is can determine the chances of how long your site is up and running. If yours is a relatively new business, you would want your site to be up and running. You would be spending a lot of money on SEO and ensuring that you get the traffic to your site. You would be spending a lot of money on technologies and things such as CRM and so on. But, suppose the consumers log into your website and discover that the site is not up and running?

You have lost business and you would not even know about it!

That is what is painful about this point.

Hence, the options are clear. Get a good host for you. One decides on the host and then decides on the website these days. I would say that it is a wise thing to do.

These days, the first of the decisions to be made when one gets ready with a business plan is the plan on the website. However, the decision to be made even before that is where to host the same. The decision on the particular webhosting has become one of the first decisions to be made in planning the business.

However, how does one get to decide this?

That is where one needs a lot of feedback from customers who have been using such webhosts. There are a number of sites which get this feedback from the different customers in place and that feedback is very helpful. The feedback gives a number of information to the one who wants to be on one webhost but who is unable to decide on the same.

One, it tells you which sites are giving what kind of features and attributes. Two, it tells you how long and how well the site is up and running so that one's site is there full time and will get the traffic. Three, it also tells you which of the webhosts to choose from the number of choices which are available in the market. One can also decide, based on this, what cost to pay for what features.

The British Petroleum company boasted of generating over 10 billion dollars of cash every year and also indicated that it would keep growing at a healthy pace in the future. But all that changed with a single accident in the Gulf of Mexico.
The oil rig blast on April 20th has changed the fortunes of the company in a matter of weeks, only because the oil spill was continuing unabated at over 25000 barrels per day, and the company had no immediate solution to the problem.
So the company has already paid over three billion dollars and another ten billion dollars are planned to be paid over the next few months to take care of compensation and containment costs. Environmental restoration costs would be following later and that would be easily two to four billion dollars.
The company is already out of all the cash balance and it is on the verge of selling some prime assets worth ten billion dollars in order to avert a throw-away price takeover by some US company.
The company indeed has a great legacy and we can expect it to put it into good use and come back with better performance in 2011 onwards. 2010 is definitely a very bad year for the otherwise glorious company.
