~ Vice-President
~ Secretary
~ Treasurer
6. Hold first meeting of board of directors.
Tom Fitzgerald – Community Building – Distilled Wisdom
§ many community building efforts are the response of communities in crisis—defensive position because things happen ‘to’ them
§ It is challenging to sustain the effort because 1) the group usually deals with the crisis and then goes back to daily lives; and, 2) the effort usually depends on 1 or 2 dynamic individuals
§ PHCG needs to:
~ look back and take pride in accomplishments
~ take inventory of community assets and perceived needs
~ decide it wants to go forward and agree that there is value in continuing
~ determine how the group will move forward
§ Strategic Plan should connect the dots of where you are and what you want to see
§ No magic formula for successful community efforts except talent, skills, passion and commitment
§ Economic development occurs on a small scale
§ Keep mission and vision in mind
§ Community building is a series of linked steps
§ Collaborative committees are more effective than individual leaders
§ Take on manageable tasks and then build on successes
§ Need to determine goals and priorities
~ Short-term
~ Mid-term
~ Long-term
Questions Raised in General Discussion
1. How to best identify the goals on which this group should function?
2. How do we prioritize goals?
3. What are the elements of a sustainable organization?
4. How will the PHCG ensure that the master plan is implemented? Should it have a ‘watchdog’ role?
